Wow, great work! I love the one on the left, it has such spunk and a clear direction of the marks. It reminds me of a tree, starting from the bottom and branching out. The drawing on the left has less direction but a bit more likeness. Perhaps consider darkening the lips to add more life and value.
Nancy, while I'm guessing you did the one on the right because you didn't like the one on the left, I have to say I really like them both. Sure, the one on the right looks more like you, but the one on the left has so much intense energy to it. I can feel the frustration and anger! I think your mistake there was to start getting tight around the lips and chin -- if you had just kept going with what you were doing up top it would have been an eerie, mysterious, and very affecting drawing. The mood in the one on the right is much lighter, almost playful. Are you wearing glasses in that one? If not, you might want to go in and draw over the eyes with your loose mark for a bit, because right now it looks like there's a dark rim around each eye. Don't be afraid to draw over the eyes -- they will still be there, even if you drew over them for another hour!
For me, I really enjoyed watching it! I think each portrait has a different mood because she used different lines for each portrait. I can tell that she used straight lines for the left one. However, she used more curved lines for the right one and I think this is really great! I definitely can tell her that she really nailed it about this week's assignment because she actually expressed different emotions on each of the drawings using different lines! My favorite one is the left one. It has a really funky mood and has more contrast than the right one, but still both drawings are really great. I loved it so much and I think it is really cool.
