Cityscape Michelle

  1. Michelle, your concept for this drawing was very nice -- I love the idea of looking into a box onto a city. For the most part, the perspective inside the box on the right looks good, but there's one building on the right side of the street that looks off -- it's the light building, and at the bottom of the side facing the street you can hardly see that side, but at the top you can see more of it. This makes it look like the building is twisting toward us! Also, I'm not sure what's happening with the box on the left. I don't quite understand why it's slanted down to the left. I like the idea, but I don't think it's working yet. And I think you could have done more with the background to make it interesting. Maybe add a moon or something? Some trees?

  2. What a cool idea Michelle! I love how you invite the viewer into these captivating urban scenes. I also enjoy the dark background and full range of values you've employed. With a bit more detail in the background (outside the boxes) I think you could really sell the illusion.

  7. this is interesting. first of all this looks like you shaded the charcoal and I am in love with that. I'm not sure if I actually understand the angle but I do love the city in the background

  9. I love your composition which make the entire artwork so interesting. However, a stronger contrast between light and shadow would seems better for me.
