Vivian, I think the additional elements at the bottom and top help the piece feel more fluid as a whole. This was an ambitious piece to do, because the music is somewhat strange in its inclusion of the "noise' element toward the end, and this might not have worked visually. I think you did a great job balancing between visual interruption on the one hand and visual coherence on the other! I do agree that the black spatter might be more effective if some of it seemed to be behind the other elements instead of all being in front. The slight asymmetry of the black ribbon-like shape works here, as a perfectly balanced composition would seem wrong for this piece of music. While I like the white background, I thought a light wash over the whole thing might serve to further unify the black element with the lighter bands. It does work the way it is, though, and it's a strong piece overall!
