Lee final

  1. Lee, there's so much energy in this piece, and I love the way it moves from one element to the next in a seamless way. The event on the left feels so explosive, while the middle part gets calmer, and the part on the right is wonderfully complex and mysterious. I've never seen charcoal used with ink before, and I think the tension it creates here is fantastic (the tension between the grainy haze, the discrete lines, and the cluster of solid marks). I do agree that it works best as a vertical piece, though. My preference would be to rotate it 90 degrees counter-clockwise so that the explosive element at the bottom seems to be discharging things upward. Such a curious and original piece -- really nice job!
