Ally, when I first looked at this I immediately heard an ambulance siren. The large red swirls look very loud, and rather perfectly seem to suggest that sound. Perhaps the smaller yellow explosions are the honking of the horn as the ambulance makes its way through traffic. My sense of it is so strong that no other ideas come to mind. As a drawing, it holds up well. I especially like the irregularity of the red -- it would be much less interesting if that were uniform. The only thing I might suggest would be more touches of the darker red here and there to make the lighter shades even louder. And perhaps a very light orange or something inside the yellow elements to render those as complex?
I really like this piece, Ally. You have such an interesting composition going on with the red swirls and flares of bright yellow. This feels like an emergency sound like ambulance or police sirens. I agree with Taney in that you could add more value to the red to make it stand out more. Other than that, great job!
