Helen, my favorite part of this piece is that vibrant and dramatic background. The colors are so intense, and the way you painted it gives the whole thing so much movement. I agree with some of the comments about making some of the pastel lines thicker. I might also like to see some thinner ones as well -- more variation overall. And while I like what those lines are doing, it might be more interesting to see them be even more erratic. Since the background movement is already moving in the upward direction, you could create a huge sense of energy by having some of the smaller lines run counter to it (like the diagonal line in the second panel from the top -- I really like this one!). Finally, I'd love to see these panels placed side by side like the way you were describing wanting to keep them. They might even work better as a disjointed series.
