Nanxi, I was surprised (in a good way!) to see this piece. For some reason I hadn't imagined it this way, but I think what you did is superb. I love the strange texture in the darker areas and how the black and violet bands seem to contour some kind of exotic, coiled landscape. The lighter form in the middle looks vaguely organ-like to me (as in an anatomical organ) -- I know this was not your intention, but the red elements do evoke blood, veins, and capillaries. This makes the whole piece feel slightly discomforting, and yet visually it is quite beautiful. Musically (or sonically), I find that the whole thing throbs and pulsates more than anything else, but this is probably due to its emphatically organic quality. Overall, your treatment of the watery medium is really sophisticated here; I hope this is something you will further pursue. While I know abstraction is not your thing, I hope you were able to learn something useful here. I hope you can recognize what a strong piece this is! Really nice job with this.
