Yunxin, I now see what you meant about evoking the freedom of the Beats without adhering to their style. There's something so lovely about the simplicity here, and the placement of the figure is very strong. I mentioned before that I love what you did with the negative space -- it's empty, but at the same time so full of color and evocation. While I understand your idea about the shedding of the skin, I wish those pieces were less rectangular. As it is now, they look like papers; wouldn't pieces of skin have more ragged, organic edges? But maybe you don't want to be so literal. I can respect that. But one thing to keep in mind is that when you're working with simplicity, everything you have in your drawing matters even more -- every element must be perfect, or else the viewer loses interest. So while I love the text in the upper left, that on the right seems to get sloppy at the bottom. I wish it lined up better with the edge of the painting, and I wish the value were more consistent from one character to the next. I think this is worth correction. This is a fine piece, and I want to see it perfectly executed!
