Jim, my favorite part of this drawing is that curious swipe-like mark along the left edge. I can't imagine what you used to make that, but it seems like something soft and spongy. The rings are interesting, but their placement feels a bit random. Overall, I think the composition would benefit from being cropped along the bottom edge so that the whole became an 18-inch square. Try it in Photoshop and see what you think. So much of this is about experimenting with composition, which will certainly help you moving forward even if you never do abstraction again!
What an energetic piece! I love the expressive and experimental marks-- particularly the rings that blur and bleed out. I think that using some dilutions of ink for some of the rings could add a mysterious, atmospheric quality. Nice job!
I can feel the energy when I look at this drawing! I like how he used circle shape marks and splashed and scattered marks, and I think it goes well with this drawing. I think he could have used more lighter-toned ink to make a variety of opacity because the value looks the same for me. However, I love this drawing!
