Sisley tool drawing

  1. Sisley, the textures here are really interesting. It looks like you may have used some kind of cloth or paper towel. And I like the varying opacities of the shapes. Something about the composition feels off to me, though. Perhaps it's that there needs to be more negative space -- or else a more considered use of the space you have here. The horizontal line is also quite curious. I like it, but even that might have benefited from more space above it. Keep in mind the power of emptiness -- it can be particularly useful in ink drawings.

  2. This is quite a piece, Sisley! I agree with Taney and think that you used some sort of towel to create your strokes. I think compositionally you could incorporate more negative space. Other than that, great job!

  3. This is a really nice piece! I get a feeling of freedom or escape, perhaps due to the atmospheric quality of the lighter ink forms. I especially appreciate the thin, linear marks that snake around the piece. Maybe some more of those in light washes would compliment the mood. Great work!

  4. I'm not sure which material she used, but I can feel the texture when I look at this drawing, and it's pretty interesting to look at it! I think she could have used more marks to give a variation of opacity in marks.
