Michelle tool drawing

  1. Michelle, my favorites are the top two; those bubble-like shapes are so intricate and complex, and it looks like you have all kinds of different opacities in there. I'm imagining you used something like soapy water? Whatever it is, the effect is very strong. The bottom drawing looks too literal to me -- too much like a fish tail. And the composition in this one is less strong. See if you can further explore the approach you used for the first two! There's lots of potential there, I think.

  2. I love the composition of the top right piece, Michelle. It really gives off that watery effect without any representational imagery. I think what you could do is add more saturations to the piece, with more darks. Other than that, good job!

  3. This is a really neat application of ink, Michelle! I think you may have used a straw to blow bubbles. Top left has the most engaging composition to me, with that arching, curved form. I think it may be an interesting experiment to do these with white ink on black or colored paper. Maybe varying the sizes of the bubbles could add some more dynamic energy as well. Nice job!

  4. I love this drawing. I especially like the second one, and it looks like a whale's tale, and it looks dreamy and dramatic. I love the way how she used tools to make marks. It goes well with the drawing's mood. It kind of gives me a feeling of like a subsea.
