Vivian cutout

  1. Vivian, what a compelling narrative! My take on it is that it's alluding to gene manipulation by parents who want children with musical talent (or other kinds of talent). While the composition is very strong, I wonder if the drawing would be more mysterious and ambiguous without the music notes -- and possibly without the bubbles, which I take to be alluding to amniotic fluid. With just the sheet music bars there, it would take the viewer longer to figure out exactly what's going on, and it would open the narrative to multiple interpretations. Also, the color is striking. I'm not sure what to make of it. It seems to suggest a light kind of mood, so perhaps it's there to introduce a contradiction?

  2. Wow this is exquisitely done, Vivian! The technical aspect of it is great, along with the narrative. I agree with Professor Roniger, I can see the commentary on genetic engineering in humans. I particularly enjoy the color-- it's very soft indicating youth and innocence, but has a golden tone, highlighting the desired virtue of musical involvement. I think the hands and baby/dna/music sheet is the strongest aspect, and removing the bubbles would allow that to shine. Great work!

  3. I really like your composition and color of this artwork, which gives me a positive vibe that a new birth baby is coming to our world. Your use of negative space is really impressive that I liked it a lot.

  4. I think she choose a really interesting subject. I like how she used lot of elements like DNA structure and bubbles to show the new birth of baby. Negative and positive space are accurate for me and composition is also great. I think this work is really nice

  5. I love your idea of weaving the DNA and music. It is not only beautiful to look at, but also makes me think a lot. The hands on the two sides are intriguing. They are mysterious but I can still get what they are doing. It is really a profound work!

  6. I think you combine music scores with babies very well. The two hands on the screen look like knitting sweaters, which looks intriguing.
