Jim cutout

  1. Jim, this is a very strong piece. It has a haunting kind of ambiguity about it: the looming shapes in the background could be a drawbridge, but they could also be something much more ominous. And the placement of the sole figure and stop sign within that triangle underscores the sense that something bad is about to happen. I also like what you did with the negative space that frames the image. I do wonder if the image would be even stronger if you eliminated two of the windows. A single lit window might be even more mysterious!

  2. Wow, this is really cool Jim! It reminds me of Edward Hopper's work and the surrealism movement, especially Magritte. It is ambiguous what is happening on the left and above the house, perhaps a landslide or crushed house? I think you could eliminate the strips of white at the bottom and right side to bring the viewer more into your narrative. Great work!

  3. Jim, I love this piece! It reminds me of the poster for the movie The Exorcist, with the figure staring up at the house. I love the way that you've incorporated the negative space as well. I agree with Taney and that you could maybe have one window instead of three, to add more ambiguity. Overall, great job!

  4. Jim, your work is really interesting and mysterious. I like how you present the rock in the background and the light come out from the door which create a sense of space!

  5. It is such an interesting work! I love how you deal with the door of the house that I can see a strong sense of light. The light makes me wonder what is inside the house. I think maybe you can add more irregular shapes to the rock in the background to make it more interesting to look at. The whole piece is really cool!

  6. What a mysterious and cool drawing! I like the upper left thing, is it a shadow? I think the lamp beside this person is kind of superfluous, maybe you can choose remove it.
