Carson, I'm going to guess this is a blue monochrome. While I can see that you mixed the blue and the black, I can't see any other colors in there! First, whenever you have blue, you should consider using orange, since complements tend to enhance each other. I also think the blue would benefit from some purple and green -- try colors you wouldn't think would work at all. Remember that the point is to achieve colors so complex we can't even name them! The black should also have much more color in it. After our critique today, I think you have more of an idea of what to do. I hope to see this reworked before you turn it in at the end of the semester. You can do so much more!
Carson, this is a captivating piece! I think you've rendered the face wonderfully, I can see a lot of improvement! I agree with Professor Roniger, more color could help push the mood and visual interest. I would suggest going over the black areas with a dark warm tone (red, orange, purple) and blend that into a blue as the shadows start to dissipate. You could also add a warm tone into the highlights (yellow, green, pink) and work those into the blue ground as they spread as well. Really great work!
this reminds me a lot of Picasso blue period and its so interesting. the background might might be better with a tint of blue or maybe another color in the background so something that help makes it interesting
I like your use of color, that you have chosen cold colors on the figure. The use of grey, black and blue looks amazing on that warm colored paper. I also like how you draw the eyes, in which they looked very vivid.

ReplyDeleteI love the color you bend on the face. It looks so smooth! However, maybe you can choose to bend the outline. I think it would be better!
