Helen optical blending

  1. Helen, as I said in class, I think this is a fine example of optical blending. I know you had trouble with the colors blending, but you managed to keep the colors from becoming too muddy. Two things that bother me are the small brown line under the jaw on the right and the similar line on the left of the hand. I don't think you need either. Part of what makes this drawing so great is the soft intermingling of the different parts (ie., the hat with the background, the shoulder of the dress with the background. Also, perhaps we could see just a little more light blue in the bright yellow background. Terrific job overall.

  2. Helen this piece is spectacular! I can see a coherence here with your acrylic paintings. The face manages to toe the line between detail and ambiguity, resulting in a captivating focal piece. I love the bright red you added in the lips and cheeks, I think it may be nice to see more of that in the background and clothes. Great work!

  3. It is an amazing piece Helen. I like your rich color and your style. But I think you might blend too much on the face.

  4. This is so phenomenal, Helen! I love how saturated the colors are, plus how you've created the expression on the figure as well. The face seems a bit outlined, but I think that works for this piece. I don't know what to suggest, it looks perfect to me. Awesome job!

  5. I really like your use of color on the face part, where yellow, red, brown and green mixed together. I suggest you to add a bit more colors in the background, since currently the background feels a bit yellowish.

  6. It is so fantastic! I really love the rich colors you use on the girl. But I think maybe you can make a little bit more contrast between the girl and the background. I love this drawing so much!

  7. This is really fascinating Helen. I really appreciate your drawing as the marks are so tiny! I can see that you put your effort into this drawing, and I think it's cool. I can see that it works well as an optical drawing, and I especially like the cheek part. There are so many colors, and it is so vivid. I think you nailed this week's assignment. Great Work!!
