Taylor Cubism 2

  1. Taylor, while I like what you did to make the central kettle look multiple, I think that part is still too literal, too easily identified as a kettle. If that cluster were cut in half, with half placed somewhere and the other half somewhere else, I think it would be stronger. Also, see if you can avoid placing the thing directly in the center -- that tends to make for a more conventional image. The yellow is interesting, but for that to feel integrated into the rest I think it has to overlap some of the collage pieces (rather than just moving around them). I think you need to add a lot more shapes to the whole piece. I want to see much of that negative space covered with shapes! Don't forget that you can blow up your drawings in photoshop before printing them -- this will give you more of a variety of scales to work with (because I do think you need more larger shapes here).

  2. Taylor, this piece is great! I think the places where you appear to have had fun with it work well-- the handle of the central kettle is very interesting and snake-like, and those yellow forms are quite whimsical. I think you could continue to break up the shapes around the periphery, cutting into them or layering on top. It would be nice also to add some solid black shapes to help move the eye around. You could have tons of fun with cutting out interesting shapes like starbursts or tendrils as well. It is such a captivating piece, great work!

  3. Very imaginative painting! I love it! You can use your skills to dismantle and assemble a new painting. It is very imaginative, the teapot is dancing in the air, and yellow ribbons are spouting out of the teapot! Beautiful!
