Vivian hands

  1. Vivian, you are the master of rendering with charcoal! It's so soft and hazy, like sfumato. The hands and fingers are really convincing, I love how the left hand fades away. Perhaps you could revisit some of the cast shadows and add more hints at fingers. The concept is so charming, I love how meta it is-- a drawing drawing itself.

  2. Vivian, as always, this drawing is very accomplished. I really like the softness of the hands, and the anatomy looks terrific all around (maybe one thing to recheck is the third finger on the leftmost hand -- I can tell what it's doing, but it seems like the tip should appear slightly shorter from this perspective). The shadows in this piece are very strong, and I love the idea of hands drawing hands. The only thing that bothers me is that compositionally, I think it would have been stronger to have that leftmost hand come in at a sharper angle. I actually think it would have been a great composition if that were just negative space where that hand in, but I know you had to draw four. Maybe just adjust the angle to make that hand come in from the left edge? Really terrific work on the detail -- I can tell this took a lot of time!

  3. This drawing is so impressive. I really like how you draw these hands, they look so smooth, soft and realistic. But I wonder why you don't finish hand on the the left.

  4. Wonderful piece! But the shadow on the left seems a bit strange.
