Sisley hands

  1. This is so cool, reminds me of those vegetable/meat portraits we looked at in class. I love how the hands are dark in value without extreme contrast, so they work well with the light background. The composition is great, I like how the fingers engage the negative space. I think you could consider adding some details on the wrist, like veins, to really emphasize the structure. The work is so great overall!

  2. Sisley, what a powerful and evocative drawing! I love the darkness of the hands, and the way they're all coiled together. I agree with Ally about the way the fingers activate the negative space -- really nice work. Anatomically, the only thing that seems off to me is the leftmost hand. The little finger there looks like it's bending inward too much, and the finger next to it looks awkward too. On this finger I think it's the angle of the fingernail -- it seems like we shouldn't be able to see the whole thing from this angle. Also, on the rightmost hand, the thumb looks a little flat. I think going in and drawing some creases between the joints would help -- as might making the subtle highlights there slightly more visible.

  3. I love your composition, Sisley! It looks powerful. I even can feel the strong physical force. It gives me a feeling that people stand together and against the destiny. But the part of the hand between the thumb and the index finger seems a little bit weird.
