Jim hands

  1. Jim, the anatomy here looks quite accurate. The only problem I see is that the thumb on the upper left hand looks a bit strange -- too long, perhaps, and with not enough of a curve around where it meets the hand. As far as the composition goes, while I like what the individual hands are doing very much, I think they could have been more thoughtfully arranged. You might want to try extending the arms on all the hands so that they go to the edges -- this might help. Also, putting a black background in might help activate the negative space. Another thing I like is the way you shaded the hands -- nice combination of loose line work and soft tone.

  2. I think you're really finding your rhythm with charcoal, Jim! All your pieces have a great quality of mark, not overly soft or blended. I love the hand on the bottom right, it is very successful. Some of the fingers are a bit elongated but the structure of the hand is very proficient. Great work!
