Vivian's comments on final projects

 Jim Final:

Nice work! As we mentioned in class, create some holes and falling pieces. Finish the background; this image would look more completed.

Lee Final:
I love the way you combine monochrome and colorful images in one piece. I think you should add something more in the background to make the work looks more complete. (maybe some plants or flowers)

Miki Final:
Really good looking work with cork pastel. However, I think you need something else to break the negative space on the top left corner.

Yunxin Final:
Really stylistic work! As we mentioned in class, you need something to break the negative space on the top left corner. Maybe some plants, buildings, or even Chiese words.

Sisley Final:
Your piece is super strong that I can feel lots of emotions from this piece. Take a look at the bottom right corner, and maybe change the two linear lines to something else.

Morgan Final:
You are an outstanding illustrator! As I mentioned in class, I would expect some unicorns' legs in this piece, making it has less sense of flowing.

Christina Final:
Your work is really stylistic and amazing. I think you need more details on the octopus and make its hand move out of the frame.

Michelle Hands:
Your hands look very smooth, and I really appreciate it. But I also think the anatomy is a bit off for the third hand.

Jim Hands:
The anatomy of your hands looks very accurate. Think more about the composition, which can make them look more interesting.

Yunxin Hands:
Your hands look stylistic and interesting. However, the anatomy seems a bit off. Most of your fingers look too long and soft.

Miki Hands:
Your work is interesting and very attractive. I think the top value should be brighter than the bottom since the "sun" is at the top.

Sisley Hands:
The composition looks really amazing to me, and the anatomy of your hands looks very accurate. But the value of your hands looks to dark to me. Maybe you can add some tones in the background to decrease the contrast.

Christina Self-Portrait:
Your work is very emotional, and I really appreciate it. I think you need more light on your face, to make a variety of value.

Lee Self-Portrait:
Nice work! But I still think you need more light on the face.

Taylor Self-Portrait:
Nice work! Just change the sketchy stroke into the scribble.

Carson Self-Portrait:
Your work is really stylistic and amazing. Maybe work on the negative space to make it more complete.

Selina Self-Portrait:
Nice work! Just one point, your nose seems too dark.

Ally Self-Portrait:
Really nice self-portrait! Maybe you can fill the background with all the scribbles.

Nancy Self-Portrait:
I like your scribbles! It really tells the emotion. Maybe you need more grey tones to make your work even more realistic.

Portraits to choose from: Wednesday, December 9th

Below are ten portraits of celebrated people from the past. Your class work today is to select one and draw it. The idea isn't to copy the image exactly but rather to use your mark-making to express something of who the person is or means to you. (For example, if the person is a musician, you might want your marks to be lively, energetic, lyrical, etc.)

Albert Einstein

Mohandas Gandhi

Nina Simone

Georgia O'Keeffe

Pablo Picasso

Haruki Murakami

James Baldwin

Isadora Duncan

Isamu Noguchi

Lucille Ball
